Assuming you keep the information regarding the project in there. When moving a site would recommend moving the project. Its name is irrelevant: webroot, docroot, html, public-html, htdocs or web. Your Virtual Host definition should point DocumentRoot to the folder that contains what needs to be available from the web. Anticipating the work in progress to even move core and extensions outside of DocumentRoot. Would recommend to switch to a project reducing what is available in DocumentRoot. When downloading Drupal you'll have a distribution based on the legacy project template with everything in DocumentRoot. Unfortunately, for Drupal that currently includes core and extensions. Only things that need to be available from the web are placed in DocumentRoot. Currently, projects don't place everything in DocumentRoot anymore. It used to be that everything was available through the DocumentRoot (webroot). The folder structure as a result of such create-project command depends on which project template you use.

The recommended project is meant to be used in a 'composer create-project` command. Should I use MAMP to create a host and web root and then tell composer to create the drupal site in that host/webroot by giving the path information to the host I created in MAMP? When I want to move it from MAMP to a production site, I'd only move the drupal directories and files inside web to inside the public-html directory?ĭo I have this basically correct, am I way off, or somewhere in between? Thanks for your patience. And I ignore them.Ĭomposer (php composer.phar create-project drupal/recommended-project my-test-project) created the my-test-project directory and put the Drupal files in 'web' and the json files one level up. This puts the json files inside the webroot. Normally my process with MAMP is to start a new test site by generating a new host, downloading and extracting the files, creating a database, and running the install. I've spent the last several days searching and reading and remain confused. I apologize for the basic nature of my questions.

This has generated some questions about placement and order of operations.
#INSTALL COMPOSER MAMP PRO WINDOWS INSTALL#
I've managed to install composer and used it to download the 'recommended project' into a directory named 'my-testing-site' with the following path: /Users/myusername/my-testingsite. I plan to start by using it locally on MAMP. I'm trying to grow my expertise and learn to use composer.
